Skull DaYs 1.2
Where: Millennium park – Calgary
When: 6:30pm till you leave
The day started out innocently enough. We were all practicing our tricks, and Cary was finding new and creative ways to stay on her unicycle without actually having to ride it:
And then Athena wanted to play a game. She suggested basketball, but we did not have a ball that was bouncy enough to dribble, so we decided that we were allowed to carry the ball, like in football. Our goals were hula hoops propped up against the wall. We were also allowed to tackle. And Unideathball was born.
Sydney tried to stay out of it
But she got dragged into the mess. Literally.
And in what is becoming a Screaming Skulls tradition, the game ended with violence and mayhem.
On January 16 we held our own little unicon, which featured races, high and long jump, freestyle pairs, hockey and coolest trick.
Pairs teams were given time to come up with a routine, and some turned out nicely:
The hockey game, however, got a little chaotic, especially because we couldn’t find the hockey sticks and were forced to use other, random props instead. The fact that our goals were rola-bola tubes did not help matters much, either.
And then it just got violent
So we called the game to a halt and announced the winners. Athena and her team won everything except best trick, which went to me for hula hooping while riding. Athena was deemed winner of unicon, and we called it a day.
From left to right: Gerry, Nathaniel, Kevin, Steven, and Matt who looks longingly at my beautiful, intact, unicycle.
Matt cracked his custom solid aluminum seat-post. It weighed around a pound.
Nathaniel did an incredibly sketchy skid down a bowl drop, congrats for sticking it!
Remember that there is also a Saturday indoor freestyle ride every week, so come on out to that as well.

Moose has many really technical and nasty single tracks. It was snowy at the top with a horrendous wind. I had to stop many times to warm up my hands in my arm pits. The trail was steep, snowy at the top and muddy at the bottom.
We did the same trail twice. My legs were absolutely mush at the finish.
Matt was pretty happy when we finally reached the bottom!

A good turnout! I met two new riders, Kevin and Nathaniel. Kevin nailed an upwards handrail on the fourth try, no problem. Nathaniel got his brand new nimbus trials from Pete at Unicycle.com and was breaking it in. Come on out if you’re reading this!
Next ride (12th) is canceled for the holidays.
